Narrative

A single-vehicle crash claimed a driver’s life at Dry Branch Road and Odom Street in Aiken before 4:30 a.m. on Sunday, Jan. 6th. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office said the driver of Traffic Unit 1 was traveling on the southbound lanes, went over the centerline lanes, crossed off course, and collided with a tree. The impact caused the vehicle to catch fire. Eyewitnesses were able to pull the driver out of the car. The driver, John Ways, 31, succumbed to fatal injuries.
