GAFFNEY, SC – One person died early Thursday morning after crashing their vehicle along the interstate in Gaffney.
The incident happened around 3:20 a.m. on I-85 southbound near mile marker 95, which is just south of Lake Whelchel and north of Cherokee Medical Center.
Police say that a southbound passenger vehicle collided with a construction vehicle on the interstate. The passenger vehicle then ignited after hitting the concrete barrier on the interstate.
The driver of the passenger vehicle became entrapped, and died at the scene of the accident. Authorities have not yet released their identity to the public.
Officials have not mentioned any other injuries in connection to the incident.
